Abstract:

The article discusses M.N. Muravyov’s manuscript heritage. The main source is the poet’s “Notebook” preserved at the RSL Manuscript Department. The poet’s translations from ancient authors are introduced into scientific circulation. In addition, the issue of the fundamental unity of Muravyov’s work, in which there is no sharp contradiction between the “translation” and the “original”, is raised. For the first time, such texts by Muravyov as “Reconciliation. Parody of Horace’s Ode IX from Book I”, “Iambs”, “Agriculture”, “Annoyed Achilles”, ”Ephesian Widow”, and “Epistola”, are published. In addition, new material for reconstructing the creative history of the fable “The Wolf and the Fox” is proposed.

  • Keywords: M.N. Muravyov, history of Russian literature of the 18th century, Horace, Ovid, Marcial, Aesop, Lucan.
