Abstract:

The article presents an analytical review of materials reflecting the literary ties of M.A. Sholokhov with Abkhazia. The array of surviving memories of the writer’s stay in Pitsunda and Sukhum, meetings with Abkhaz writers and intelligentsia is considered. Considering various memoir sources, both Russian and Abkhaz, makes it possible to objectively recreate individual episodes of the Abkhaz meetings of the Russian classic writer. At the same time, Sholokhov’s long-standing personal friendly relations with Abkhaz writers, poets, publicists, translators, and new acquaintances made during the Russian writer’s visits to Abkhazia are taken into account. The enormous interest in Sholokhov’s creative heritage, which was and is shown by prominent representatives of the Abkhaz creative intelligentsia of different generations, is noted. It is not surprising that translations of Sholokhov’s works have become part of the literary process in Abkhazia. Taking into account additional materials from the Abkhaz periodical press, new perspectives for studying the designated topic have been outlined.
