Abstract:

The article continues the review of book publications by Russian authors devoted to Abkhazia. This part of the work examines eight books published at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It is noted that during this period, literature on Abkhazia tended to steadily grow in quantitative terms. At the same time, most of it had a narrow professional purpose. Of the entire mass of books, attention is focused on little-known publications. The names of some of their authors have been completely forgotten. The academic value of the books under consideration varies: some contain reliable and trustworthy material in many respects, while others are rather superficial and were designed only for the needs of the cultural milieu where they were born and which they represented. The focus is primarily on publications that describe the appearance of the Abkhazians, and their culture, as well as historical retrospectives and plots, and innovations that occurred during this period in the history of Abkhazia. The analysis allows us to expand the source base on the history of Abkhazia in the late 19th — early 20th centuries.
