Abstract:
The article is devoted to the theoretical and methodological prerequisites for creating a commentary on M. Sholokhov’s “And Quiet Flows the Don.” To determine the approaches, the author examines the traditions of commenting on the texts of outstanding Russian writers of the 19th century, and also draws attention to the poorly developed line of commenting on the works of Russian Soviet literature. The article analyzes the reasons for this state of affairs in Russian philology, and also examines the key elements and approaches to the development of principles for commenting on the novel by M. Sholokhov.
