Abstract:

The work is devoted to the study of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novel Crime and Punishment, focusing on textual, poetic, and intertextual aspects. The first paragraph discusses the problems of textual research on the draft autograph of the novel (the so-called “Wiesbaden” version): unresolved and controversial issues regarding the history of the text and the creative history of the novel design. As a result, the sequence of rough drafts has been clarified, errors in the publication of the text (including in the academic edition) have been corrected, and the author’s creative process has been restored. These observations allow us to rethink the history and nature of the formation of the artistic concept of Crime and Punishment in general. The second section provides an analytical overview of the key themes of the novel’s narrative that define the concept of the hero in Crime and Punishment and its scholarly reception. In the third paragraph, based on the textual analysis of the manuscripts and printed text of the novel, one of its central themes is explored—the theme of the soul’s resurrection. The fourth paragraph is devoted to the question of discrepancies in the research interpretation of biblical intertexts in the novel Crime and Punishment and the establishment of the most correct approaches to the analysis of biblical allusions and quotations in this work.
