Abstract:

The speech in memory of Mushni Taevich Lasuria emphasizes his important role in the history of Abkhazian culture as a poet, translator, outstanding master of artistic word, and literary theorist. The original poetic world of Lasuria is examined using the vivid examples of his poetry included in poetry collections and a five-volume collection of works (“Word from the Cradle”, “Hopes”, “Silk House”, etc.). The refined culture of poetic thinking, observation, and the ability to see the sublime in the small and ordinary are noted. His significant contribution to the qualitative renewal of the Abkhaz poem (the historical and mythological poem “The Golden Fleece”, the novel in verse “Fatherland”, “The Star of Dawn”) is emphasized. In the field of artistic translation, the translations of Pushkin’s “Eugene Onegin”, Lermontov’s “Mtsyri” and “Demon”, Rustaveli’s “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin”, Longfellow’s “The Song of Hiawatha”, works by Byron, Petőfi and others are considered undoubted achievements. Lasuria is called a living symbol of the Abkhazian artistic world, and his poetry is an example of philosophical comprehension of the eternal mysteries of the Universe.
