Abstract:
This publication presents and comments on the letters of the Bishop Theophan (Govorov) to N.N. and M.P. Maslova (mother and daughter), published in 1910–1911 in the Ufa Diocesan Gazette. In the introductory article and comments, the biography of these women is generally restored, as well as their circle of communication after moving from Ufa to St. Petersburg. Among the Maslovs’ St. Petersburg entourage, V.I. Jordan, A.P. Walrond, E.F. Davydova, who also corresponded with the Bishop Theophan, are noted. E. Davydova’s name is mentioned for the first time in this regard. The participation of the recipients of the Bishop Theofan in the life of the Isidore Diocesan Women’s College was also noted. The published letters are an important addition to the biography of the Rev. Theophan, to the creative history of his books such as “Letters on Spiritual Life”, “Letters on Christian Life”, “Psalm One Hundred and Eighteen, Interpreted by Bishop Theophan”, “Letters to Various Persons on Various Subjects of Faith and Life”, “Words on the Lord’s, Mother of God’s and Festive Days”, “Four Words about Prayer”, “Philokalia”, etc.
Кeywords: Theophan (Govorov), Maslovs, Walrond, Davydova, Jordan, Isidore College.
