This work of an encyclopedic type represents all the literary movements and groups of the 20th century of most European and American countries. It is the first encyclopedia of this kind in Russian. In terms of the such a detailed coverage of the material and its conceptual development, this collective work has no analogues in foreign literary criticism. The dictionary contains 603 articles, representing both international movements (such as Realism, Avant-gardism, Expressionism, Surrealism, Modernism, Postmodernism, etc. — 31 in total), as well as specific national movements and literary associations. General articles, which set out the aesthetic and ideological foundations of a particular trend or movement, precede articles on international trends. Next articles are devoted to national variants of international trends, where the emphasis is on national specifics. Articles on national literatures are intended to give the most complete picture of a movement or literary group, including the following points: the history of the origin and development of a literary movement (or the history of its borrowing and assimilation on one or another national ground); main representatives and works; philosophical and ideological basis and ideological background; stable themes, motifs, images, plots; aesthetic principles. The dictionary summarizes extensive and often little-known material and allows a new and deeper understanding of the specifics of the artistic life of the past century.

Keywords: trend, creative association, group, magazine, manifesto, 20th century.
